Odgers, who embodied the Enforcer player type and was the third team captain in the history of the San Jose Sharks franchise between 1995 and 1996 , celebrated his greatest career success with the Kansas City Blades when he won the Turner Cup of the International Hockey League in 1992 .
Career
Jeff Odgers began his career in 1986 in the Canadian Junior Western Hockey League with the Brandon Wheat Kings . There he was less noticeable for his skills as a scoring striker, but more for his hard play and fights. He played for the team for four years and scored 65 points in 64 games in his senior year, but then had to leave the Wheat Kings because he was too old for the league.
He then joined the Kansas City Blades from the International Hockey League . There he continued his hard style. In the summer of 1991 he received a contract with the San Jose Sharks , who were before their first season in the National Hockey League . Odgers established himself in the team and in the league as a good enforcer . In the 1992/93 season he had his best year with 27 points, he also received 253 penalty minutes. 1995/96 he wore the "C" as captain of the Sharks.
In the summer of 1996 he and a draft right for Al Iafrate were transferred to the Boston Bruins . He played in Boston for a year, but his contract was not renewed after that. After the start of the 1997/98 season was in any team under contract, he joined the AHL - farm team of Boston, the Providence Bruins at. But after four games in the AHL, the Colorado Avalanche signed him . He played for Colorado for three seasons and stayed true to his style as an enforcer. In the 2000 NHL Expansion Draft he was selected by the Minnesota Wild , but was signed by the Atlanta Thrashers in the NHL Waiver Draft before the start of the 2000/01 season . He played for the still very young team for three years and helped the team to slowly establish itself in the NHL.
On August 7, 2003, Jeff Odgers announced the end of his career. He holds the San Jose Sharks and Atlanta Thrashers franchise records with the most penalty minutes with 1,001 and 532 minutes in the penalty box, respectively. He then worked as a radio commentator for the Thrashers from the 2006/07 season , after which he was a scout for the Prince George Cougars in the Western Hockey League between 2011 and 2013 .
