Jeffrey D. Brown

Jeffrey D. Brown (* before 1977 in New York ) is an American film director , film producer and screenwriter who won an Oscar in 1986 for the film Molly's Pilgrim .

Life

Brown attended New York University and then studied at the Tisch School of the Arts , a faculty at New York University. He entered the film business in 1977 with the horror film Murder Spiders . In 1980 he worked on the documentary Fist of Fear, Touch of Death as editor and sound designer .

In 1986 Brown won an Oscar in the Best Short Film (Live Action) category for his film Molly's Pilgrim . He wrote the script, directed and also produced the film. In addition to another documentary, he mainly worked for television in the following years. Brown wrote the screenplay for the road movie The Dream of Apollo XI in 1994 and appeared as executive producer. In 1987 he was involved in the comedy drama Dream with the Fishes as a co-producer and writer.

Brown wrote and directed the screenplay for the 2014 two-award-winning drama Sold , which is based on a model from Patricia McCormick's novel of the same name. Among other things, Emma Thompson appeared in the film as executive producer. The film is about the fate of thirteen-year-old Lakshmi, who lives with her impoverished family in a small hut on a mountain in Nepal.
