Jens Peder Bergensten (born May 18, 1979 ), also known as Jeb or jeb_ , is a Swedish game developer . He has been working for the Mojang Studios development studio since December 1, 2010, where he is the lead developer for the Minecraft game .

Life

Bergensten programmed his first games in various BASIC dialects at the age of 11 . At the age of 21 he worked as a mapper and modder for the first-person shooter Quake III Arena . He later worked as a C ++ programmer for the Swedish game developer Korkeken Interactive Studio , which later traded under the name Oblivion Entertainment . During this time he began developing an online role-playing game called Whispers in Akarra , but later stopped developing it due to lack of interest.

After Oblivion went bankrupt , Bergensten moved to Malmö , where he obtained his master’s degree in computer science in 2008 . During his studies, he founded together with Daniel Brynolf and Pontus Hamm Arber the Independent -Entwicklungsstudio Oxeye Game Studio , which for the development of games such as the Jump 'n' Run cobalt or the real-time strategy Harvest: Massive Encounter is responsible.

Until November 24th 2010, Bergensten worked for the online knowledge network Planeto .

Mojang and Minecraft

Bergensten was originally hired as the back-end developer for the digital fantasy trading card game Scrolls . Over time, however, he programmed larger and larger parts of the game Minecraft , the further development of which he has played a major role as a senior programmer and designer since December 1, 2011, after Markus Persson resigned from this position.

Private

Bergensten has lived in Stockholm with his wife Jenny since mid-2011 , the couple has been married since May 2013. Their son Björn was born in December 2015.
