Jeroen Krabbé (born December 5, 1944 in Amsterdam ) is a Dutch actor and film director .

Life

Krabbé was born into a family of artists; his brother Tim Krabbé is also known . His father and grandfather were painters and Jeroen also tried his hand at painting in his youth and registered at the "Kunstnijverheidsschool" in Amsterdam, today's Gerrit Rietveld Academie . He did not believe in his talent as a painter and then attended the acting school Toneelschool Amsterdam, which he successfully graduated from at the age of 20.

Krabbé first became popular in the Netherlands in Paul Verhoeven's films , for example in Der Soldat von Oranien (1977, with Rutger Hauer ) and The fourth man (1983, with Renée Soutendijk ). But he also played a smaller role in a crime scene in 1972 : Kressin and the painter's wife .

His first major American film was the Whoopi Goldberg comedy Jumpin 'Jack Flash . As a villain, he came to fame in a number of international films of the 1980s, such as Merciless (1986), the James Bond film The Touch of Death (1987), The Punisher (1989) and On the Run (1993).

He also starred in numerous television productions such as the final episode of The Denver Clan , an episode of Miami Vice and as Satan in the television movie The Bible - Jesus . Krabbé mostly appeared in the role of the villain, but had also played some roles in comedies. He also worked as a director and producer, for example on The Discovery of Heaven .

In addition to acting and directing, he appeared artistically as a painter and co-author of a cookbook. In November 2004 he published the book Schilder with an overview of his pictures. Krabbé's paintings, especially landscapes , were exhibited at Museum De Fundatie in Zwolle in 2008 . Krabbé owns a house in Dalfsen , not far from Zwolle, where he often retires to devote himself to painting in peace. Part of his apartment in Amsterdam is also set up as a painter's studio. A picture created by Krabbé ( Dutch Landscape from 1993) adorns a Dutch postage stamp.

It has a place in Madame Tussaud's wax museum in Amsterdam.

Krabbé is the father of three sons. His eldest son, Martijn Krabbé (born March 26, 1968), is known in the Netherlands as a presenter of television and radio programs.
