Career

After Bélanger was one of the top players in the team there, he got the chance to prove himself in the NHL for the first time in the 1991/92 season . Overall, however, he only completed four games for the Montreal Canadiens.
Another season with the Canadiens followed, before he signed a contract as a free agent with the then newly founded Florida Panthers in the summer of 1993 . In Sunrise , Bélanger developed into a service provider. In his first year with the Panthers, he made his breakthrough in the NHL. The 1.80 m tall and 77 kg heavy right-handed shooter scored 50 points in 70 games. After two more successful years with the Panthers, he was drawn to the Vancouver Canucks and the Edmonton Oilers .
In 1997 he moved for five games in the Swiss National League A for SC Herisau and then returned to North America. There he first played for various farm teams in the American Hockey League and the International Hockey League . In the 1999/00 and 2000/01 seasons , Bélanger wore the jersey of the Montreal Canadiens and the New York Islanders .
After he finally no longer hoped for a permanent commitment in the NHL, he decided to switch to the Hamburg Freezers in the German Ice Hockey League during the 2002/03 season . Despite a good performance, he only stayed there until the end of the season and then joined the Frankfurt Lions . In Frankfurt , the then 34-year-old was able to convince again with 54 points in 50 games. However, his one-year contract was not extended and so Bélanger then played two years in the Swiss National League B for EHC Biel .
Then Bélanger moved to the Canadian ice hockey league LNAH to the CRS Express de Saint-Georges . For the 2008/09 season he signed a contract with the Poutrelles Delta de Sainte-Marie , then he returned to his previous club in Saint-Georges.
