Jiří Hrzán (born March 30, 1939 in Tábor , † September 23, 1980 in Prague ) was a Czech actor.

Hrzán was an active athlete in his youth. After graduating from school, he applied to the theater faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (DAMU), but was rejected. He began performing at the Tabor Youth Theater, where Emil František Burian discovered him. Although he stuttered and had a bad pronunciation, he brought him to his theater studio in Prague. From here he applied again and this time successfully to DAMU.

During his training he appeared in films several times, including in Žalobníci (1960), Valčík pro milióny (1960) and Reportáž psaná na oprátce (1961). During his military service, he was a member of the army artist group. He then performed at the Prague Činoherní club , where he also demonstrated his talent for acting improvisation. Outstanding were his portrayals of Daniel Halibut in Sean O'Casey's Bedtime Story and Dobchinsky in Gogol's The Auditor .

In the 1960s he also had several film roles, including in Jindřich Poláks Nebeských Jezdcích . After the crackdown on the Prague Spring in 1968, an accident that led to the cancellation of several performances was used as an excuse to forbid him from working at the Činoherní club . He earned his living for the next several years as a singer and occasionally as a television presenter. In the 1970s he again had roles in television productions such as Revizor (1971), Byl jednou Any dům (1974), Žena za pultem (1977), Tajemství proutěného košíku (1977) and Arabela (1980). He died in 1980 as a result of a fall while climbing on a house facade.
