James (Jim) Leighton MBE (born July 24, 1958 in Johnstone , Scotland ) is a former Scottish football goalkeeper.

He completed a total of 91 international matches between 1982 and 1998. During this time he took part in the World Championships in 1986 , 1990 and 1998 .

Actually, Leighton was not nominated for the 1998 World Cup, but since there were disputes with goalkeeper Andy Goram because of his wedding in the USA , he was nominated and played his third World Cup at the age of almost 40.

He ended his professional career in 2000 at the age of 42 with Aberdeen FC . Leighton has worked for Manchester United , FC Aberdeen and Hibernian Edinburgh , among others .
