Jim Rash
James "Jim" Rash (born July 15, 1971 in Charlotte , North Carolina ) is an American screenwriter and actor who has been involved in more than 100 film and television productions since the mid-1990s. For the most part, he takes on guest roles in comedy series. He is best known for his role as Pelton Leader in the sitcom community . In 2012 he won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for The Descendants . He works as a screenwriter and director with Nat Faxon .
Life
Jim Rash was born in Charlotte , North Carolina , and grew up there with adoptive parents. He attended the Charlotte Latin School , where he already had theater lessons. Due to bad grades, he added an additional year to the Lawrenceville School in New Jersey , which had a particularly good theater program. He then returned to North Carolina, where he was accepted at the University of North Carolina and graduated in 1994 with a bachelor's degree in radio, television and motion picture arts . He then moved to Los Angeles . While he was looking for roles, he worked as a waiter. After doing several small jobs, such as a commercial for McDonald’s , he got a small guest role on the CBS sitcom Cybill in 1995 . In 1997 he got his first recurring role on the sitcom The Naked Truth . Many other appearances in television series followed, especially in sitcoms, including some recurring guest roles, such as in 1999 in Katie Joplin and Thanks . In the 2000s, Rash had the recurring guest role of Fenton in six episodes of the sitcom The Wild Seventies and in the comedy series Reno 911! guest role as Andrew in 14 episodes . Starting in 2006, Rash starred as Jonathan in the short-lived ABC series Help Me Help You , which was canceled after half a season. From 2009 to 2015, Rash was seen in his biggest role to date as the crazy study leader Pelton in the sitcom community . While he had a recurring guest role in the first two seasons, he was led as a leading actor from the third season. From 2013 to 2014, Rash hosted the talk show The Writers' Room , which was nominated for an Emmy . Since the beginning of the 2010s, Rash has been working increasingly as a spokesperson for animation series.
For more than 20 years now, Rash has played and taught at the Groundlings Theater in Los Angeles, where he met Nat Faxon . Along with it, he wrote in 2005 the script for the ABC - Pilot Adopted which, however, did not go into production. The two co-wrote the screenplay of The Descendants with Alexander Payne , for which they won an Oscar in 2012 . In January 2013 the film Far Back premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival , for which Rash and Faxon wrote the script and directed for the first time. In 2020 the two released Downhill , the US remake of the Swedish production Force Majeure .

Awards
Jim Rash received awards and international recognition primarily as a screenwriter for The Descendants . He won the Oscar in the Best Adapted Screenplay category as well as a Writers Guild of America Award and a Satellite Award for the film . He has also been nominated several times for his role in the award-winning series Community .
