Jimmy Foster

James "Jimmy" Foster (born September 13, 1905 in Glasgow , United Kingdom , † January 4, 1969 in Winnipeg , Manitoba , Canada ) was a British ice hockey goalkeeper who, among other things, was Olympic champion in 1936 with his country.

Career

Jimmy Foster began his career as a hockey player in Canada, where he studied at the University of Manitoba . He later joined the Moncton Hawks, with whom he won the Allan Cup , the Canadian amateur championship, in 1933 and 1934 . In 1935 he returned to his British homeland and played there first for the Richmond Hawks in the English National League . From 1936 to 1939 he was with the Harringay Greyhounds between the posts. In 1940 the goalkeeper returned to Canada and played there for the Glace Bay Miners and As de Québec.

International

For Great Britain Foster took part in the World Championships in 1937 , 1938 and 1939 . He also represented his country at the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , where he and his team won the gold medal. The tournament was also rated as a world and European championship, which is why he and his team also won these titles. In 1950 he was inducted into the British Ice Hockey Hall of Fame . The majority of the Olympic team from 1936 received this honor only in 1993.
