Jiujiang ( Chinese  九江 市 , Pinyin Jiǔjiāng shì  - "Nine River City") is a district-free city in the Jiangxi Province of the People's Republic of China . Jiujiang has an area of ​​18,823 km 2 and around 4,847,600 inhabitants (end of 2016). 611,321 people live in the actual urban settlement area of ​​Ji'an (2010 census). Over 90% of the residents of Jiujiang are Han Chinese .

The world-famous Lushan Landscape Park, which has become a center of tourism, is located in the area of ​​the independent city of Lushan .

The site of the Lushan Conference and villas of Lushan (庐山 会议 旧址 及 庐山 别墅 建筑 群, Lúshān huìyì jiùzhǐ jí Lúshān biéshù jiànzhù qún) and the site of the Standard Oil Company (美孚 洋行 旧址, Meifǐū) yáng stand up the List of Monuments of the People's Republic of China .

At the county level, Jiujiang consists of three municipalities , seven counties and three independent cities. These are:

  • Xunyang district (浔阳区), 50 km², 280,000 inhabitants, center, seat of the city government;
  • Lianxi District (濂溪 区), 548 km², 260,000 inhabitants;
  • Chaisang district (柴桑 区), 911 km², 340,000 inhabitants;
  • District of Wuning (武宁 县), 3,507 km², 350,000 inhabitants, main town: large community Xinning (新 宁 镇);
  • Xiushui District (修水 县), 4,504 km², 760,000 inhabitants, capital: Yining Municipality (义 宁 镇);

  • Lushan City (庐山 市), 719 km², 230,000 inhabitants;
  • City Ruichang (瑞昌市), km² 1423, 430,000 inhabitants;
  • Gongqingcheng City (共青 城市), 193 km², 120,000 inhabitants.

history

After the Treaty of Tianjin (1858) and the end of the Second Opium War (1860), the city on the Yangtze (former transcription: Kewkiang ) was opened as a treaty port for foreign powers.
