Joachim Fuchs-Charrier

Joachim Fuchs-Charrier (* 1954 in Munich ) is a German drummer who also appears in jazz .

Musical career

After studying the flute at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich from 1964 to 1966, he studied classical percussion at the Meistersinger Conservatory in Nuremberg from 1969 to 1972 . After several years as a drummer in show and gala bands in Europe and the USA, he developed his own polyrhythmic concepts from 1976 to 1980 after spending time in North Africa and studying African and Latin American drum cultures.

In 1978 he appeared for the first time with a large drum solo performance (16th German Jazz Festival in Frankfurt am Main ). In 1979 he recorded the solo LP "Drum Symphony". In 1980 the "Fuchs Goos Band" was founded together with the guitar virtuoso Werner Goos. He continued to work with international jazz stars, was involved in the new jazz formation "Choice" with Lauren Newton and in the big band project "Flirt". After further drum solo projects live and on record ("Pictures at a drumhibition I-III"), he has developed numerous percussion ensemble projects since 1986 (e.g. snare drum ensemble "The Crazy World Marching Drum Connection"). From 1994 to 1996 he produced several drum videos such as "Rudimental Drumming", "Brushwork", "Tribute to Buddy Rich " and "Art of Solodrumming I-III", taught at workshops and worked with Dom Famularo, Pete York , Arnold F. Riedhammer and Charly Antolini . The production of further drum videos like "Mysterious Drumming", "Drummer's Request", "Quintessence", "Monster Steps" and "Taoism" followed in 1996-1999, as well as the release of another drum solo production on CD - "Drummer's Delight".

Fuchs-Charrier organized several drum and percussion festivals (e.g. Drummer's Summernight in Hülben with Michael Küttner , Manfred von Bohr , Hakim Ludin ) and in 2000 and 2001 produced a multimedia documentary on the development of drums: “History of Drumsetplaying “- together with Arno Haselsteiner, Jörg Bach, Uhuru and Rudi Leichtle. He also recorded CDs with Werner Goos and Knut Rössler ("Hotel East") and with Wieland Harms ("AXErciser", "Paganini & Co. for electric guitar"). After the book / CD project “To become a drummer is not difficult” (2002), more teaching activities and work on the first novel “Hell always begins in the head” in recent years. In 2005 he appeared as a soloist in Berlin with Mirko Schurig and his group “The Third Drumstick” and organized the Reutlingen drum spectacle “Drumming Without Borders”. He currently plays with Peter Wondra (bass) and Friedbald Rauscher (piano) in the “Friedbald Rauscher Trio” and with the “Wieland Harms Trio”.
