Joachim Herrmann (born October 29, 1928 in Berlin ; † July 30, 1992 there ) was editor-in-chief of New Germany and a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the SED .

Life

Herrmann attended the Langhans secondary school in Berlin from 1939 to 1945. He was a member of the German Young People from 1938 to 1945 and was drafted as an air force helper towards the end of the Second World War .

Until 1949 he worked at the Berliner Zeitung and the start . In 1948 he joined the SED. From 1949 to 1952 he was deputy editor-in-chief and from 1954 to 1960 editor-in-chief of the FDJ - the central organ of the Junge Welt . From 1952 to 1961 he was a member of the central council of the FDJ .

From 1960 to 1962 he was deputy department head in the SED Central Committee, from 1962 to 1965 as editor-in-chief of the Berliner Zeitung , until 1971 as state secretary for West German issues and until 1978 as editor-in-chief of the SED central organ Neues Deutschland .

He became a candidate in 1967 and a member of the SED Central Committee in 1971, a candidate in 1973 and a member of the Politburo of the SED Central Committee in 1978, where he has been responsible for the media, friendly and bloc parties and the National Front since 1979 . From 1978 to 1989 Herrmann was secretary of the SED Central Committee, responsible for agitation . His apparatus controlled the media (instructions) and was largely responsible for their unrealistic representation.

On November 10, 1989, he was expelled from the Central Committee of the SED. Central Committee member Wilfried Poßner demanded at that time:

“I would like to apply emphatically and with full responsibility to expel Comrade Herrmann from the Central Committee. Otherwise we can no longer exist. I want to say that very clearly. "

When Egon Krenz asked him to comment on this, Herrmann replied:

"I bear all the consequences of the errors that have come up here in connection with the situation that has arisen as a result."

This sealed his exclusion from the Central Committee. Finally, on January 20, 1990, he was also expelled from the party (now SED-PDS ).

Hermann received the Order of Labor Banner in 1968 , the Patriotic Order of Merit in Gold in 1970 and the Karl Marx Order in 1978 and 1988 .
