Joachim Schmiedl

Joachim Schmiedl ISch (born December 18, 1958 in Nuremberg ) is a German theologian and Schoenstatt Father .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1977, Joachim Schmiedl entered the Institute of the Schoenstatt Fathers and, after completing his novitiate, studied Catholic theology at the University of Münster from 1980 to 1987 . He was ordained a priest in 1988 and received his doctorate in the same year .

Afterwards he was vicar for two years in Oberndorf am Neckar and from 1990 to 1998 as youth chaplain in the dioceses of Rottenburg-Stuttgart , Eichstätt , Aachen , Essen and Paderborn .

Since 1997 he has been working on the preparation of the beatification process for Josef Kentenich , and since 2003 he has been vice-postulator in the beatification process for Josef Engling .

Schmiedl completed his habilitation in 1998 at the Catholic-Theological Faculty of the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster and received a teaching assignment at the Philosophical-Theological University of Vallendar . He was also General Secretary of the Schoenstatt Fathers from 1998 to 2001.

He has held the professorship for church history at the Philosophical-Theological University Vallendar since 2001 and was appointed dean of the theological faculty in April 2009.

Since 2002 Schmiedl has been editor-in-chief of the theological journal “ REGNUM ” and since 2004 editor of the sources and treatises on the history of the Middle Rhine church . Since 2013 he has been the editor of the series of European Synods after the Second Vatican Council . From 2017 to 2020 he was chairman of the Catholic Theological Faculty Conference.
