Joanna Lumley
Joanna Lamond Lumley , OBE (born May 1, 1946 in Srinagar , Kashmir , then British India ) is a British actress and former model . Her most famous role she had as Patsy Stone in the BBC - series Absolutely Fabulous .
life and work
Tall, long-legged, slim and blonde, she began her film career as a Bond girl in James Bond 007 - On Her Majesty's Secret Service . She had her first major role in 1976 in the new edition of the agent series With Umbrella, Charm and Melon as “Purdey”, the female colleague of “ John Steed ”.
Lumley specializes in upper class women, and her distinctive deep voice helps her portray them.
She has also written books including Stare Back and Smile ( autobiography ), Forces Sweethearts, Girly Friday and In the Kingdom Of Thunder.
At the first peak of her career, she made headlines in the mid-1960s when she raised her son Jamie as a single mother, which was barely accepted in society at the time. In 1970 she was married to comedy writer Jeremy Lloyd for half a year . In 1986 she married Stephen Barlow .
Lumley has long been a human rights advocate , including Survival International . In 1995 she was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) and received several honorary doctorates from British universities .
Her close friends also include the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall , to whose wedding party she was invited.
