Jochen Arlt (born May 6, 1948 in Dinklage ) is a German writer and editor .

Life

Jochen Arlt's family comes from Breslau , from where they were expelled in 1945. Arlt grew up in Langwege / Vechta and Obermendig / Eifel and has lived in / near Cologne since 1957.

After attending a business academy, he worked for the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger , Bayer AG Leverkusen and the Federal Committee for Economic Education in Cologne.

From 1979 to 1991 Arlt was editor of the Kölnische Rundschau. It was there that the Arlt-initiated series of articles, books from Cologne , music from Cologne , artist life in Cologne , appeared for the first time in local print media . Under the pseudonym JW Martin , he wrote further regionally related articles from 1983 to 1992 in the magazines KÖLN IM , StadtRevue , new rheinland , KÖLN or Zwischen Erft und Wupper .

Since 1976 Arlt has published poetry and prose in anthologies by publishers such as Artemis & Winkler, Aufbau, edition chrismon, edition DAS GEDICHT, EVA, Grupello, KBV, Verlag Ralf Liebe, Reclam, Wolkenstein or in yearbooks and literary sheets. He also worked for BR, Radio Cologne, RBB, RPR, SWR and WDR.

Since 1991 Jochen Arlt has been a freelance journalist, writer and editor of numerous books on topics related to the Rhineland (including seven books of poetry under the pseudonym Achim von Langwege , which he used until 2000). Poems were translated into French by Rüdiger Fischer or set to music (by Klaus Graf , Hans Knipp , Peter Sarach, Nadine Maria Schmidt and Andreas Wagner, among others ).

Arlt, who is a member of the Association of German Writers and the German Association of Journalists , writes reviews, interviews, features, essays , and reports. In addition, he is the editor and author of groundbreaking picture / text volumes such as Kölner Stadtrechner or Endstation Ubierring .

In 1996 the anthology Young West was published as the eleventh volume in the series of reading books supervised by Jochen Arlt in the Rhein-Eifel-Mosel-Verlag (Pulheim).

Arlt is the founder of the KÖLN IM Prize, the Cologne Literature Prize and the Rheinische Literaturpreis Siegburg , which u. a. Jürgen Becker , Hans Bemmann , Karl Otto Conrady , Ralph Giordano , Gisbert Haefs , Peter Maiwald and Norbert Scheuer . He is also a juror for the German Record Critics' Prize .

Jochen Arlt, who has been widowed since 2010 and has two children, lives in Houverath in the Eifel.
