Joe Alaskey

Joseph Francis "Joe" Alaskey III (born April 17, 1952 in Troy , New York , † February 3, 2016 in Green Island , New York) was an American actor and voice actor . In addition to his role as Uncle Beano in the sitcom My father is an alien Alaskey was primarily as a spokesman for the Looney Tunes -Figuren Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny known.

biography

Alaskey began his career as a stand-up comedian and worked as a speaker for a Boston radio station. There he met Bill Scott , the creator of the animated series The Rocky & Bullwinkle Show . Scott was impressed by Alaskey's voice impersonation skills and took him to Los Angeles in 1985. Alaskey got a few minor roles in various cartoon series.

In 1987 Alaskey had his breakthrough as an actor on the sitcom My Father Is An Alien , in which he played the uncle of the psychic girl Evie, portrayed by Maureen Flannigan . Alaskey left the series at the beginning of the third season. In addition, Alaskey appeared in 1989 as an announcer in the game show Couch Potatoes .

Parallel to his involvement with My father is an alien , Alaskey was still active as a spokesman for cartoon productions. He played several guest roles in the series Mighty Mouse, revived by Ralph Bakshi . In addition, Alaskey has repeatedly appeared publicly as a voice imitator. Alaskey's imitation of actor Jackie Gleason was particularly popular . When a previously lost episode of Gleason's show The Honeymooners was restored in the late 1980s , Alaskey spoke to Gleason's dialogues again.

In 1988, Alaskey first took on the role of Looney Tunes characters. In the feature film Wrong Game with Roger Rabbit , Alaskey spoke the characters Yosemite Sam and Foghorn Leghorn . Mel Blanc , who previously voiced these characters in the Warner Bros. Cartoons, also appeared in the film. Two years later, Alaskey played the Daffy Duck-based "Plucky Duck" in the animated series Tiny Toon Adventure . After Blanc's death, Alaskey took over other characters and spoke among others Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and the cat Sylvester in the movie Looney Tunes: Back in Action . In the cartoon series Duck Dogers , Alaskey spoke alongside Daffy Duck (who played Duck Dogers) and his archenemy Marvin the Martian .

In addition to his work for Warner, Joe Alaskey took on the role of grandfather in the animated series Rugrats after David Doyle's death in 1997 . He also spoke the same character in the Rugrats feature films and in the follow-up series All Grown Up . In addition, Alaskey acted as a spokesman in numerous computer games , including the games Escape from Monkey Island and Gothic 3 .

In 2009 Alaskey published his autobiography That's Still Not All Folks !! .
