Joe Lynn Turner (born August 2, 1951 in Hackensack , New Jersey ) is an American singer . He is best known for his engagements in the rock bands Rainbow , Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force and Deep Purple .

Life

After his first experiences in the bands Filet of Soul and Ezra , Joe Lynn Turner joined the Fandango formation in 1977 as a guitarist and singer. Four albums were created during this time . Through his work at Fandango, Ritchie Blackmore became aware of him as he was looking for a lead singer for his band Rainbow . Since the band, which until then had been predominantly British , now had an American singer, attempts were made to land on the US market.

In 1984, Rainbow was put on hold by Blackmore to resurrect Deep Purple . Turner initially worked as a solo artist. In 1985 he released his first solo LP, "Rescue You". He subsequently recorded a number of solo works. Turner collaborated with many musicians. This is how he developed into one of the most sought-after session musicians in the industry.

In the fall of 1986, former Emerson, Lake & Palmer and Asia drummer Carl Palmer tried to put together a new band in New York City . He had brought along Joe Lynn Turner, former Foreigner keyboardist Al Greenwood and the Californian singer, bassist and guitarist Robert Berry as possible musicians . But the joint rehearsals were unsatisfactory for everyone involved and a band did not materialize.

In 1990 Turner worked with Deep Purple on the recording of the album "Slaves And Masters" and on the tour. The follow-up album was already in the works, but there were internal things in the band, due to which he was replaced by the previous singer Ian Gillan and left Deep Purple. He now turned to projects like Brazen Abbot and Mother's Army .

With the exception of his solo debut in 1985 and a subsequent solo break, Turner has released solo albums regularly since 1994. The "Hughes-Turner Project" has existed together with Glenn Hughes since 2002 . So far the two studio albums "HTP" and "HTP 2" as well as the live album "Live In Tokyo" have been released. A third album planned since 2004 has not yet been released. In 2003 Turner released another solo album with the simple title "JLT". In 2006 he recorded a new version of the rainbow hit Street of Dreams with Blackmore and his partner Candice Night for their joint project Blackmore's Night , which can be heard on the extended version of the album The Village Lanterne . On the 2013 Avantasia album The Mystery Of Time , he took on a vocal role in 4 tracks.

2014 he was with Carmine Appice (drums, ex- Ozzy Osbourne ), Tony Franklin (bass, Blue Murder ) and Jeff Watson (guitar, ex Night Ranger ) under the name Legacy X on tour. Bruce Kulick was originally intended to be the guitarist for the band , but he had to fail due to his appointments with Grand Funk Railroad . However, Jeff Watson was replaced a short time later by Karl Cochran, who had also played in Joe Lynn Turner's solo band. The band is now Rated X .

In August 2015 he declared his support for Putin in Crimea.
