Joseph "Joe" Spence (born December 15, 1898 in Throckley , † December 31, 1966 ) was an English football player .
Career
Spence was sold to Manchester United by Scotswood in March 1919 . He made his debut on August 30, 1919 against Derby County . Spence stayed with the Red Devils until 1933, playing a total of 510 games and scoring 168 goals. He was one of the only players in the Red Devils in the interwar period who was considered a "star". Spence served in the British Army during World War I and was a guest player at Liverpool FC and Newburn during the war . Spence didn't win a single title and is still among the ten players who made the most competitive games for ManUtd.
