Joey Beltram

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Joey Beltram (born November 6, 1971 in Queens , New York City ) is an American graffiti artist and musician .

Life

Joey Beltram grew up in the New York borough of Queens . In Brooklyn , he was passionate about spraying graffiti on various walls.

At the age of 12 he started to DJ. At 17, his first record followed Nu Groove under the pseudonym Code 6. Beltram was not inspired by the typical NY sound or disco, but by Adonis or Chip E. This was followed by work for the labels Atmosphere Records, Easy Street and Trax Records from Chicago . His records are selling well, but not in his hometown. He is therefore completely amazed when the label owners tell him about their success in Europe.

In 1989 he traveled to Ghent in Belgium, where he continued to develop his career in Europe. Back in Queens in 1990, he produces Energy Flash. New York labels reject the production - unless Beltram would expand it with vocals. Beltram does not compromise and releases Energy Flash on the Belgian label R&S Records , ignorant of the fact that he is writing music history with it, which is even featured in music textbooks today. As an imported product, the album is a huge club success in New York and the New York labels get in touch with Beltram again with the statement that they would like to release something from him after all - no matter what. Not entirely happy with this development (that some labels are only interested in his music when they are sure that it can be sold in large numbers), he concentrates primarily on Europe, where he is already a kind of "hero" Techno generation is celebrated.

1995 his album Places appears on Tresor Records . The album was included in The Wire's "100 Records That Set the World on Fire (While No One Was Listening)" list.

In 1999 he started the label STX and published the arena ep .
