Johann Carl Bock the Younger (born September 2, 1757 in Nuremberg ; † March 6, 1843 ibid) was a German engraver and etcher in Nuremberg.

Life

Johann Carl Bock - Portrait of Johann Jakob Griesbach , around 1800

He was the son of Johann Carl Bock of the same name, the master of ceremonies (chief of protocol ) of the Nuremberg City Council , and the younger brother of the two painters Johann Christoph Bock (1752– ??) and Christoph Wilhelm Bock (1755–1835).

With his brother Christoph Wilhelm, Bock went on what is probably his only trip abroad to the Austrian Netherlands (Belgium). In 1794 he was accepted as a member of the Nuremberg Painting Academy .

He specialized in portraits and copperplate engravings for natural history books, which he carried out based on foreign models. His illustrations of Johann Wolf's natural history of birds in Germany in faithful images and descriptions and of Eugen Esper's The Butterflies in images based on nature with descriptions are considered outstanding . He worked in the dotting technique .
