Johann Gerhard Gruner
Johann Gerhard Gruner (born February 15, 1734 in Coburg ; † July 1, 1790 there ) was a German lawyer and historian.
Life
Johann Gerhard Gruner was the son of the Privy Councilor and Consistorial President Johann Friedrich Gruner (* September 11, 1688; † April 12, 1756) and his wife Euphrosine Maria (* April 26, 1705; † April 18, 1756), a daughter of Johann Friedrich Facius (born February 4, 1674 in Roßla ; † September 18, 1731 in Coburg), chamber councilor and scholarch , born. The names of his siblings are known:
- Johann Friedrich Gruner (1723–1778), Protestant theologian, historian, rhetorician and educator;
- Rudolph Erdmann Gruner (born September 10, 1737 in Coburg, † January 16, 1804 in Berga ), 1761 pastor in Roschütz .
Johann Gerhard Gruner was tutored by private tutors and from 1750 attended the Coburg academic high school Casimirianum . Once finished, in 1752, he studied at the University of Jena jurisprudence and then returned to Coburg. He became court and government advocate and appeared at the Reichshofrat and the Reichskammergericht as well as before regional authorities.
He became a chamber consultant and was tasked with defending the interests of the sovereign of the Duchy of Saxony-Coburg-Saalfeld against unlawful interference. He was sent to conferences at which he represented the interests of the ducal house. In 1770 he accompanied the privy councilor Moritz August von Thümmel in important matters of the Duke to Vienna , both of which earned his express thanks.
After he was a chamber assessor for a short time , he became a chamber councilor and six years later a court councilor and in 1782 a privy councilor and in 1783 a privy councilor and president of the rent chamber , in which he was the only council of three councilors for ten years, the other two remained vacant. In addition, he was a scholarch and a member of the police, breeding and orphanage commissions.
In his spare time he dealt with historical topics and biographies and wrote a number of papers on them.
Johann Gerhard Gruner's first marriage was to a born nobleman who lived in Hildburghausen . During a trip with his wife and sister from Hildburghausen to Coburg, the car in which they were driving fell over in a badly swollen little stream, and his wife and sister drowned.
In his second marriage he was with Margarethe Barbara (* unknown; † 1836), b. Habermann from Hildburghausen married. They had several children together.
