Johann Joachim Kretzschmar

Johann Joachim Kretzschmar (born May 20, 1677 in Zittau , † before April 27, 1740 in Dresden ) was a German sculptor .

Kretzschmar was a student of Balthasar Permoser in Dresden and finished his apprenticeship there in the 1690s. Permoser brought him back to Dresden in 1712 for the major sculptural tasks at the Zwinger . Kretzschmar acquired citizenship in Dresden in 1712 . In 1716 he made the pulpit of the Wolfgang Church in Schneeberg . In 1728 he was appointed court sculptor and worked in this position in Dresden until his death. Sigfried Asche described him as one of the "most spirited sculptors in Dresden between 1712 and 1740".
