Johann Michael Feder
Johann Michael Feder (born May 25, 1753 in Oellingen , † July 6, 1824 in Würzburg ) was a German Catholic clergyman and university professor .
Life
Johann Michael Feder received his school education in the boys' seminar of the Juliusspital in Würzburg.
He studied Catholic theology at the University of Würzburg and entered the Kilianeum in 1772; on June 26, 1777 he obtained his licentiate and on the same day he was ordained a priest .
After serving as chaplain in the Juliusspital in Würzburg, Freudenberg , Limbach and Gerolzhofen for a few years in pastoral care, in 1786 he was appointed associate professor of oriental languages and exegesis in the theological faculty of the University of Würzburg; on May 1, 1786 he received his doctorate as Dr. theol.
In 1795, as the successor to the late Anton Joseph Roßhirt (1746–1795), he was appointed full professor of moral theology and patristics ; from July 25, 1802, he filled the vacant chair for oriental languages of Gregor von Zirkel , whom he had represented since 1800. With the secularization , he was dismissed as a professor on November 11, 1803 and, despite objections to Count Maximilian von Montgelas , he was no longer hired in 1806.
From 1791 he was, as the successor to Johann Philipp Gregel (1750–1841), director (senior librarian) of the Würzburg University Library ; on June 25, 1804 he was provisionally confirmed in his office by Count Maximilian von Montgelas.
In 1811, after a stroke , he retired as head of the university library .
Writing
Johann Michael Feder published various translations from French from early Christian literary history and edited the Würzburg Scholars advertisements from 1788 to 1792 ; In addition, from 1791 to 1797 he published a magazine for the promotion of the school system in Catholic Germany .
