Johann Theodor Viehmeyer

Johann Theodor Viehmeyer (born January 7, 1870 in Marienfeld , † March 15, 1947 in Starnberg ; also Johann Theodor Wiehmayer ) was a German pianist and music writer.

Life

Viehmeyer studied with Coccius, Carl Reinecke and Salomon Jadassohn at the Leipzig Conservatory from 1886 to 1889 . In 1890 he made a concert tour through Sweden and Norway and taught from 1902 to 1906 at the Leipzig Conservatory and from 1908 to 1925 at the Stuttgart Conservatory . In Stuttgart he led the virtuoso class and was appointed professor in 1909.

In 1924 Viehmeyer retired to Starnberg and died there on March 15, 1947.

Works

Viehmeyer composed the prelude and fugue for organ op. 1, canons for mixed choir and piano works, including the pedagogical piano works: five special etudes, finger technique school, scale school and universal etudes. He was also the editor of new editions of the works of Carl Czerny's School of Virtuoso and Carl Tausig's Daily Studies .
