Johannes Honigmann

Johannes Honigmann (born October 1, 1976 in East Berlin ) is a German translator for literature and theater works, who translates mainly into French .

life and work

Johannes Honigmann, eldest son of the writer Barbara Honigmann , grew up in East Berlin and after his parents left Strasbourg in 1984. There he passed   the Franco-German Abitur in 1995 at the international school Lycée international des Pontonniers (" option international du baccalauréat ", OIB). From 1998 to 2008 he lived in Paris , where he first studied film and television studies at the University of Paris VIII . Johannes Honigmann has been living in Berlin again since the beginning of 2009.

Honigmann is the author of a play published in 2002 and an autobiographical sketch published in 2012 .

Career as a translator

In 2000, Honigmann received an initial grant from "Maison Antoine Vitez", an association promoting foreign theater in France, for the translation of The Arabian Night by Roland Schimmelpfennig . In 2002 he took part in the literary translator program of the Franco-German Youth Office . In the same year he received the "Theater Transfer" grant from the Goethe Institute for the translation of Tankred Dorsts Friss mir nur mein Karlchen not! . In 2003 he received a second grant from Maison Antoine Vitez, for a men's nursery from Kristof Magnusson .

• 2005: Audience Award ( Prix ​​des auditeurs ) from Radio Suisse Romande , for the novel Sea of ​​Indian Ink by Richard Emanuel Weihe .
• 2008: Prix ​​Médicis étranger , for the French translation of Alain Claude Sulzers A perfect waiter .
