Johannes Klomann (born May 7, 1976 in Ludwigshafen - Oggersheim ) is a German politician ( SPD ), member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament and member of the city council of the state capital Mainz .

Career

Johannes Klomann grew up in Frankenthal . After graduating from high school, he did his community service at the Palatinate Institute for Hearing and Communication , before studying English, American and political science at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz from 1996 and graduating with a master's degree. Klomann was initially an employee of the MP Ulla Brede-Hoffmann from 2001 , then from 2005 scientific advisor for the SPD parliamentary group in the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament.

Klomann has been a member of the SPD since 1999. In 2003 and 2004 he was chairman of Jusos Mainz. In 2012 Klomann became chairman of the SPD local association Gartenfeld-Neustadt , which he remained until 2014. From 2006 to 2014 he was a member of the local council of the Mainz-Neustadt district and was elected as the new mayor in the 2014 local elections. He succeeds his brother Nico Klomann from the Greens .

At the same time he was elected to the city council of Mainz. There Klomann is a member of the city rights committee and the school authority committee. In addition, he is the spokesman for citizen participation in the SPD city council group and is a member of the parliamentary group's executive committee. Furthermore, Klomann is a member of the works committee of the waste disposal company of the city of Mainz and the supervisory board of Wohnbau Mainz .

He moved into the state parliament on April 1, 2015 in the constituency of Mainz I (constituency 27) for the resigned MP Ulla Brede-Hoffmann. In the state parliament he is a member of the committees for education as well as science, further education and culture. He is also a deputy member of the Media and Network Policy Committee and the Budget and Finance Committee.

In the state elections on March 13, 2016, Klomann was able to win the direct mandate in constituency 27 with 40.3 percent of the first votes.

On April 25, 2018, the SPD local association Gartenfeld-Neustadt elected Klomann again as the mayor candidate for Mainz-Neustadt for the 2019 local elections . With 27,747 votes, he was re-elected to the city council in the local elections in May 2019. In the mayor's runoff election on June 16, 2019, however, he lost to Christoph Hand from the Greens.

On December 14, 2019, Klomann was elected the new chairman of the SPD in Mainz at the party conference. On June 27, 2020, Klomann was nominated again as a candidate for the Mainz I constituency for the 2021 state election .
