Johannes Mauropous

Johannes Mauropous from Paphlagonia was a Byzantine monk and scholar. He was Metropolitan of Euchaita .

Johannes Mauropous came to Constantinople around 1028 . He was Minister of the Emperor Constantine IX. He taught philosophy at the University of Constantinople . His students included the historian Michael Psellos , the lawyer Johannes Xiphilinos and Konstantin Dukas, who later became Emperor Constantine X. Through the mediation of Psellos, he got a position at the 1054 Reformed University of Constantinople.
