Johannes von Dohnanyi (* 1952 in New Haven , Connecticut , USA ) is a German-American foreign correspondent , journalist and author .

Life

Dohnanyi was born in 1952 as the son of Klaus von Dohnanyi and his first wife Renée. Illing (1926–1958) born. After graduating from the Odenwald School , he studied economics at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main , where he also graduated.

In 1978 he started working as a freelance foreign correspondent in Rome . a. for Stern , Die Zeit , ARD radio and television. In 2005/2006 Dohnanyi was involved in the “ Cicero Affair” together with the journalist Bruno Schirra (* 1958) . The Federal Prosecutor General at the Federal Court of Justice accused them of treason because they cited confidential files of the Federal Criminal Police Office in an article about the Iraqi terrorist Abu Musab az-Zarqawi . However, they did not divulge their sources , citing freedom of the press and the protection of informants . On July 17, 2006, the Potsdam District Court rejected the opening of proceedings against Schirra and Dohnanyi for “aiding and abetting betrayal”.

His father is Klaus von Dohnányi , who was Federal Minister of Education and Science between 1972 and 1974 and First Mayor of the Hanseatic City of Hamburg from 1981 to 1988 . His uncle is the conductor Christoph von Dohnanyi . His cousin is the German film and television actor Justus von Dohnányi . His grandfather was the resistance fighter Hans von Dohnanyi , who was executed by the Nazis . His great-uncle, brother of the grandmother ( Christine Bonhoeffer ) was the well-known theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer . His great-grandfathers include the Hungarian composer Ernst von Dohnányi and the German neurologist and psychiatrist Karl Bonhoeffer .
