Johannessisters of Maria Königin

The St. John's Sisters of Maria Königin ( Latin : Congregatio Sancti Ioannis , abbreviation : CSJ ), also known as Leutesdorfer Sisters , are a religious community under episcopal law . The congregation emerged in 1919 from the Johannesbund founded by Johannes Maria Haw (1871-1949).

history

The female branch of the missionaries of St. John the Baptist and the statutes of the sisters of St. John of Maria Königin received episcopal approbation according to canon law from Trier Bishop Franz Rudolf Bornewasser on June 12, 1928 . In 1941 all facilities of the congregation had to be closed on the instructions of the National Socialists . Only in 1945 did a new beginning come about with the assistance of the occupying powers . On July 16, 1956, the congregation was affiliated to the Order of the Discalced Carmelites .

The Order of Women works and lives in 38 houses, the 236 members are spread over Germany , Portugal (since 1956), India (since 1971) and Mozambique (since 1970) and Montenegro (since 2001). The administration of the order has its seat and the general house in Leutesdorf . In Germany the sisters of St. John work in the dioceses of Trier and Mainz and in the archdiocese of Cologne . The focus of her work is pastoral and social work , participation in retreat houses , advancement of women and the rehabilitation of people at risk. In addition, the sisters are active in kindergartens , schools , youth work and care for the elderly . One group is dedicated to Eucharistic adoration .
