John Bloom (film editor)
John Bloom (born September 12, 1935 in London , England ) is a British film editor .
Life
John Bloom was born in London to the sculptor Edward Bloom and the writer Elizabeth Grew and the younger half-brother of the actress Claire Bloom . Due to his family artistic background, Bloom was influenced by the theater in his childhood, which is why he took one of his jobs as a dramaturge at Pinewood Studios at a young age . From there he went to the editing room, where he assisted John Trumper in 1958 in the editing of Heart of a Child .
After he was responsible for the first independent editing of a film with The Impersonator in 1960 , it was in 1973 the American-British television film His Divorce, Her Divorce , that first brought him into contact with the US film business. After he received an Oscar nomination for Best Editing for the first time with Karel Reisz's Die Geliebte des French lieutenants, he was awarded an Oscar a year later for Richard Attenborough's Gandhi . Bloom received his third Oscar nomination for the joint film A Chorus Line . From then on he had made a name for himself in Hollywood, which is why he worked alternately in both the USA and England. After he was honored with the ACE Career Achievement Award for his life's work in 1999, he partially withdrew and has since worked as a co-editor at the side of his former assistant Antonia Van Drimmelen, editing films with her like Shaft - Still questions? , Diary of a Scandal and Charlie Wilson's War .
Since September 7, 1963 Bloom has been married to the interior designer Sheila, with whom he has a son.
