John Duigan

John Duigan (born June 19, 1949 in Hartley Wintney , England ) is an Australian director and screenwriter .

Life

Duigan's father was a native Australian and in 1961 John Duigan emigrated to Australia . He always writes the scripts for his films himself. He made his debut as a director in 1975 with The Firm Man , and in 1971 he wrote his first screenplay for the film Bonjour Balwyn . For the film drama Mouth to Mouth (1978) he was nominated in two categories for the Australian Film Institute Award . In 1981, two nominations for the same award for The Winter of Our Dreams (1981) followed; In 1987 he received the AFI Award as both director and screenwriter for The Year of My First Love (1987). The winter of our dreams also brought Duigan a 1983 award nomination at the Moscow International Film Festival .

The film drama Lawn Dogs - Heimliche Freunde (1997) with Mischa Barton brought him the audience awards of the Stockholm International Film Festival and the Athens International Film Festival as well as a nomination each at the Sitges Festival Internacional de Cinema de Catalunya , the World Film Festival and the Italian Fantafestival . In 1998 he won the Golden Raven of the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival for this film and was nominated for the Festival's Grand Prize of European Fantasy Film in Silver . The film drama Head in the Clouds (2004) with Charlize Theron , Penélope Cruz and Stuart Townsend won him a prize in the category Best Film at the Film Festival Internazionale di Milano in 2005 .

Occasionally, John Duigan also appears as an actor in small roles.
