John Evers
John Evers (born September 25, 1939 in Vienna , † November 26, 2010 in Gran Canaria ) was an Austrian jazz trumpeter , singer, author and radio host.
Live and act
Evers became known in the Viennese traditional jazz scene in the mid-1960s . In 1966 he co-founded the formation Blue Note Seven , which appeared at international jazz festivals in Europe and the USA. He later performed with his own formation, John Evers Swingtet , and since 1991 with the Blue Note Six . In the course of his career he also worked with musicians such as Jimmy Smith , Arvell Shaw and Benny Waters , and in the Vienna Jazzland he made music with Art Hodes , Wallace Davenport , George Masso , Jon-Erik Kellso and Jim Galloway . He also emerged as a writer and radio host. From 1999 he regularly presented the Ö1 radio program Jazztime with John Evers . Evers recorded several albums, most recently on his 70th birthday John Meets Horn , where he can be heard with the aforementioned bands as well as with the Stanton Bigband and the Chicago Eight . John Evers was connected to jazz from an early age and was a passionate record collector.
John Evers was the father of the popular artist, journalist and photographer John Evers.
Trivia
Coincidentally, on his 77th birthday (on September 25, 2016) his main band - the Blue Note Six - celebrates its 50th anniversary in the Vienna Orpheum with the participation of numerous musicians ( Martin Breinschmid , Christian Plattner , Thomas Schwetz and others).
