John Fiedler (born February 3, 1925 in Platteville , Wisconsin , † June 25, 2005 in Englewood , New Jersey ) was an American actor . His best-known roles include the piglet's voice in Winnie the Pooh and Juror No. 2 in the classic film The Twelve Jurors .

life and career

John Fiedler was born in a small town in Wisconsin as the eldest of three children of beer merchant Donald Fiedler and his wife Margaret Phelan. He had Irish and German ancestry. When he was five, the family moved from Platteville to Shorewood, another small town in Wisconsin. He graduated from Shorewood High School in 1943 and subsequently served in the United States Navy during World War II . After serving in the war, he began his show career in radio and had a role in the popular radio comedy The Aldrich Family . In 1951 the little bald actor made his first TV appearance. His first film role is perhaps his best-known at the same time: namely as the friendly but very anxious juror No. 2 in the judicial classic The Twelve Jurors . In the decades that followed, he would play similarly shy and hectic characters in numerous films and television shows. His better-known roles include the gentle card player Vinnie in the comedy A Strange Couple (1968) and lawyer Daggett in the western The Marshal (1969) alongside John Wayne .

Occasionally he also played rogue roles, for example in the episode Wolf in the Fold of Starship Enterprise as administrator Hengist, who is obsessed with the spirit of Jack the Ripper . He had another major television role as the ardent lover of Beatrice Arthur on an episode of Golden Girls . Fiedler's trademark was his voice, which was exceptionally high for a man, which he used primarily in Winnie the Pooh films as the spokesman for Piglet (in the original Piglet ) - this role was only spoken by him until his death. He also had speaking roles in other cartoons from Walt Disney . For many years, Fiedler also worked as a stage actor, for example, he had a role in the first performance of A Raisin in the Sun in 1959.

John Fiedler was never married and had no children. He died of cancer in 2005 at the age of 80. Until recently he worked as an actor. In total, he had around 190 film and television appearances.
