John Foreman also John C. Foreman (born July 26, 1925 in Idaho Falls , Idaho , † November 20, 1992 in Beverly Hills , California ) was an American film producer . He became internationally known for the production of the films Zwei Banditen , That Was Roy Bean , The Man Who Wanted to Be King or The Honor of the Prizzis .

life and career

John Christian Foreman, born in Idaho Falls in 1925, served as a soldier in the United States Navy during World War II . After the war, Foreman first taught at Stevens College in Columbia, Missouri, and later began his career in the Hollywood film business. In addition to his talent agency, Foreman also founded the production company Newman-Foreman Productions in the late 1960s . His friendship with actor Paul Newman in 1969 resulted in two successful films, the racing driver film Indianapolis and the Oscar-winning western Two Bandits with Paul Newman as Butch Cassidy and Robert Redford in the role of the Sundance Kid. The film won four Academy Awards, and John Foreman received an Oscar nomination for Best Picture. At the beginning of the 1970s, Newman-Foreman Productions made other films, including You Want To Be Giants , Two Warriors On The Move , That Was Roy Bean or The Mackintosh Man .

In 1975 Foreman produced the adventure film The Man Who Wanted to Be King, starring Sean Connery and Michael Caine , although funding for the film was not secured for a long time. The director was again directed by John Huston , who had previously directed the western That Was Roy Bean and the thriller The Mackintosh Man in previous years. The music was also composed there by the composer Maurice Jarre . In 1978 Foreman appeared as a producer on another Sean Connery film, this time on the crime comedy The First Great Train Robbery . In the 1980s, Foreman won another Oscar nomination for the comedy Die Ehre der Prizzis . His last production during his lifetime was the 2nd part of the hit comedy Mannequin in 1991 . Foreman was considered very approachable privately and liked to host Hollywood parties. He was friends with many of his colleagues in the film business, and with some he worked several times, including Paul Newman, Sean Connery, John Huston, Maurice Jarre, Dave Grusin and Stewart Raffill.

John C. Foreman has produced over 15 feature films in his career. In addition to his career as a film producer, Foreman worked for MCA and the public relations agency Rogers & Cowan. He was a co-founder of the Creative Management Agency , which later became ICM.

Foreman died on November 20, 1992 at the age of 67 in Beverly Hills, California of complications from a heart attack . His grave is in Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

The actress Amanda Foreman (* 1966) is the daughter of the actress Linda Lawson.
