John Fru Ndi

John Fru Ndi (born July 7, 1941 near Bamenda ) is a Cameroonian politician.

Life

He is the founder of the Social Democratic opposition party, the Social Democratic Front ( Social Democratic Front - SDF). Fru Ndi was a candidate in several presidential elections. In 1992 he stood as the only candidate in an electoral coalition of the opposition parties against incumbent President Paul Biya , but was defeated. His supporters spoke of electoral fraud.

In the election on October 11, 2004 he received 17.4% of the vote, on October 9, 2011 he received 10%.

In 2005 he was accused by a Cameroonian newspaper of receiving 500 million CFA francs BEAC to weaken the opposition's dynamism. The Catholic Committee against Hunger and for Development could not confirm this claim.

In the 2018 presidential election , John Fru Ndi renounced another candidacy in favor of the younger Joshua Osih. In 2019 he was abducted twice in connection with the activities of English-speaking separatists, but each time he was released.
