John MacGregor
John MacGregor (born January 24, 1825 in Gravesend , † July 16, 1892 in Boscombe ) was a Scottish travel writer and lawyer . He is considered the most important pioneer for the spread of canoeing in continental Europe.
Life
In the 1860s he made numerous trips on German rivers with his boat called "Rob Roy" and caused a sensation with his new type of boat. He recorded these trips in book form. His records are considered to be one of the most important sources for researching the history of canoeing.
In 1866 MacGregor founded the Royal Canoe Club , which is considered the oldest canoeing club in the world.
