John Maloof

John Maloof is an American filmmaker , photographer and writer who was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Documentary at the 2015 Academy Awards, along with Charlie Siskel, for his work with Finding Vivian Maier . He and Siskel were also nominated for a British Academy Film Award in the category Best Documentary for this film . Maloof has worked as a real estate agent in Chicago since 2005 . He began to be interested in the city's history and became chairman of the local history association. In 2007, while researching his book Portage Park, he happened upon the work of the photographer Vivian Maier , who had taken a large number of street photographs in the 1950s and 1960s . Maloof has curated Maier's work since then. He has also edited a number of books about the photographer.
