John Mathieson

John Mathieson (born May 3, 1961 in Isle of Purbeck ) is a British cameraman . He works often with director Ridley Scott and has received multiple awards for his work. Among other things, he received two Oscar nominations.

Life

He began his career in the British film industry as assistant camera to Gabriel Beristain . In 1988 it received huge acclaim for the music video Peek-a-Boo for the rock band Siouxsie and the Banshees . He worked with John Maybury , among others , and was a cameraman for the film Love is the Devil . In the 1990s he made some music videos for artists like Madonna , Prince and Massive Attack .

In 1998 he was responsible for the visual effects in the film Public Enemy No. 1 . Mathieson was in five movies for Ridley Scott worked, where he in 2001 for Gladiator for the Oscar nominee and British Academy Film Awards in the category Best Cinematography was awarded. He received his second Oscar nomination in 2004 for the film The Phantom of the Opera .

Mathieson currently lives in the UK .
