John Shuster (born November 3, 1982 in Chisholm , Minnesota ) is an American curler and Olympic champion . He currently plays the skip position at the Duluth Curling Club in Duluth .

He began his international career at the 2003 World Cup as a lead on Pete Fenson's team ; the American team finished eighth. This was followed by other world championships in 2005, 2006 and for the first time as Skip in 2009. Six years later he was back at the 2015 World Championships as Skip and was fifth. At the World Cup in 2016 he was able to move into the semi-finals with the American team, but lost there against Denmark ( Skip : Rasmus Stjerne ). In the game for 3rd place, his team defeated the Japanese to Yūsuke Morozumi and won the bronze medal. At the 2017 World Cup , he moved into the game for third place, but lost to Peter de Cruz's Swiss team .

At the Olympic Winter Games in Turin 2006 Shuster played as the lead of the American team around Skip Pete Fenson. He won the bronze medal after beating Team Great Britain in the third place match with Skip David Murdoch .

Shuster won the US Olympic Curling Trails on February 28, 2009 with his team Third Jason Smith , Second Jeff Isaacson , Lead John Benton , Alternate Chris Plys and played with this team at the XXI. Winter Olympics in curling. Shuster in particular could not call up his skills during the entire tournament, which led to an exchange by Chris Plys in the sixth draw. The team finished last with just two wins and seven losses.

In 2014 he took part in the Sochi Winter Olympics for the third time . With the American team led by him ( third : Jeff Isaacsonsecond : Jared Zezellead : John Landsteineralternate : Craig Brown ) he came in ninth place.

Shuster won the American Olympic Team Trials with his team in November 2017   and took part in the 2018 Winter Olympics  in  Pyeongchang for the USA with  Tyler George  ( third ), Matt Hamilton ( second ) and John Landsteiner ( lead )  . After five wins and four defeats in the round robin , the Americans moved into the final round. In the semifinals they defeated Canada with Skip Kevin Koe . In the final they beat Sweden with Skip Niklas Edin 10: 7 and won the gold medal.

Shuster has won the US championship six times (2003, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2015 and 2017).

Private life

Shuster is married and has two children.
