John Zaritsky

John Zaritsky (* 1943 in St. Catharines , Ontario ) is a Canadian screenwriter , director and film producer .

Life

Zaritsky studied at the University of Toronto and then worked as a newspaper reporter. In 1970 he received a grant from the Ford Foundation to study at the Washington Journalism Center. For his first directorial work, A Student Has Disappeared , in which he also worked as a producer, he received an Oscar in 1983 . Three years later he received the Genie Award , Canada's most important film award , for Tears Are Not Enough . Between 2005 and 2008 he was nominated three times for the Gemini Award , of which he won the award twice.

His documentary Right to Die? , which has active euthanasia as its theme, caused a worldwide sensation in 2008.
