Joi McMillon

Joi McMillon is an American film editor .

Life

McMillon has worked as an assistant editor for film and television since 2004. After a series of short films, she worked as an independent editor for the first time in 2015, and as such was involved in the series Anne & Jake . 2016's Moonlight was the first feature film she worked on. For this work she and Nat Sanders were nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Editing in 2017 . She is the first African American woman to be nominated for this award. Together, the two have also been nominated for other film awards and have received multiple awards.

In 2018 she was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.
