Jon Brion

Jon Brion (born December 11, 1963 in Glen Ridge , New Jersey , USA ) is an American multi-instrumentalist, singer, composer and producer .

biography

Brion was born in Glen Ridge , New Jersey . He comes from a musical family. His mother was a jazz singer, his father led an orchestra at Yale University , his brother Randy became a composer, his sister Laurie a violinist.

At 17, Brion left school and tried his hand at being a professional musician. After an unsuccessful album with his band "The Bats" he moved to Boston in 1987 , where he became the live guitarist with Aimee Mann's new wave band 'Til Tuesday . After their dissolution in 1989, he began to work as a studio musician for artists such as Marianne Faithfull , The Wallflowers and Jellyfish . With their guitarist Jason Falkner he founded the short-lived band The Grays .

His first job as a music producer was Aimee Mann's debut album Whatever in 1993 . He also produced albums by Fiona Apple , Rufus Wainwright , Eleni Mandell , Rhett Miller , Evan Dando and Kanye West . As a composer of film music, he was recognized for his works on Magnolia (1999) and Forget Mine Not! (2004) nominated for the Grammy Awards .

Brion is known for his regular appearances in the Largo discotheque in Los Angeles , with cover versions and own songs, various instruments and famous guests. In addition to guitar, Brion mainly plays piano / keyboards.
