Jonathan Blues Band

The Jonathan Blues Band is a Berlin band and mainly plays blues rock , inspired by Johnny Winter and Stevie Ray Vaughan . The typical Jonathan sound is significantly influenced by Hagen Dyballa and Mathias Fuhrmann, who are considered to be representatives of the heavy rhythm variant in the blues . In the 1980s, the band was part of the blues scene , a youth culture specific to the GDR , and is still active today.

Band history

Jonathan was founded in 1980 as an amateur band by "Blues Pabst" Peter Pabst in East Berlin and quickly developed into one of the top bands in the East German blues scene. The founding members had previously learned the blues trade in other bands. Pabst came from Holly's blues band , Dyballa from Passat and Kersten had previously played with Stefan Diestelmann at Vai hu .

In 1986 the band switched to the professional camp. In the same year Ulrich Kersten left the band. Detlev "Delle" Kriese, who had previously played with Passion, Caesar's rock band and the Klaus Renft Combo, joined the band for him . In 1987 their first and so far only album Überdruck was released on the GDR label Amiga . From 1988 to 1995 Jörgen Schötz was on the drums. Mathias Fuhrmann joined the band for him.

The band plays in the classic three-piece line-up, but is complemented by nationally and internationally known musicians ( Peter Thorup , A. Cooper, Igor Flach , Bernd Kleinow , Matthias Matze Stolpe, Hans die Geige , Ed Swillms and others). After the reunification in the GDR, the band also appeared as a support group for international stars such as John Mayall and Johnny Winter . Since 2002 the band has been working successfully with the soloist Christiane Ufholz . For several years now, the band has been organizing the East Blues Session , which takes place regularly during the Köpenicker Blues and Jazz Festival in Berlin.
