Jordan Jowkow (born November 9, 1880 in Scherawna , † October 15, 1937 in Plovdiv ) was a Bulgarian writer . It is considered a classic of Bulgarian storytelling.

The main theme of his work is life in the villages in northeastern Bulgaria, where he combined general human values with the cultural and ethical traditions of his country. He used a simple, natural language that contains elements of both colloquial style and Bulgarian folk poetry. His leisurely-looking village stories, also contained in the collection of short stories from Balkan legends , are similar to those of Jeremias Gotthelf , Gottfried Kellers or Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach . Ernest Hemingway said of his story The White Swallow that it was the most beautiful he had ever read.

Yovkov Point , a headland of Greenwich Island in Antarctica, has been named after him since 2006 .
