Jorge Taveras

Jorge Edmundo Taveras Andújar (born April 23, 1945 in Santo Domingo ) is a Dominican composer , arranger and conductor .

After attending the Escuela Elemental de Música, Taveras studied at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música de Santo Domingo and for two years at the Conservatorio de Música de Puerto Rico . He has worked as an arranger and composer at various festivals, including the Organización de Televisión Iberoamericana festivals in Mexico, Brazil and Puerto Rico and the Festival de Onda Nueva in Venezuela.

For four years Taveras led the band at the Heinken Jazz Festival in Alto de Chavón. He worked as the musical director of the television programs Nosotros a las ocho , El show del mediodía , El gordo de la semana and De noche y Punto final . He is also the presenter, interpreter and musical director of his own television show Fantástico . Some of the musicians he worked with include a. Sonia Silvestre , Cheo Zorrilla , Adalgisa Pantaleón , Audrey Campos , Carlos Alfredo Fatule , Crystal Marie , Carolina Hernandez , Francis Santana , Frank Ceara , Jaqueline Estévez , José Antonio Rodríguez , José Emilio Joa , Joseíto Mateo , Katia Rodríguez , Miriam Cruz , Pavel Núñez , Rhina Ramírez , Claudia Sierra and Víctor Víctor .

In 1977 Taveras was awarded the Premio El Dorado , in 1987 the Asociación de Cronistas de Arte awarded him the Premio Casandra . He is considered one of the most important arrangers, composers and musicians in the commercial music business in the Dominican Republic.
