Jorge Volpi

Jorge Luis Volpi Escalante (born July 10, 1968 in Mexico City ) is a Mexican writer . He is counted as part of the so-called Generación del Crack , a writer's movement at the end of the 20th century whose manifesto calls for a departure from magical realism . His best-known work is the novel The Klingsor Paradox .

Life

Volpi studied law and literature at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and later did a doctorate in Spanish philology at the University of Salamanca in Spain . After completing his doctorate, Volpi worked as a lawyer, but later worked from 1992 to 1994 as secretary to the Mexican Secretary General Diego Valadés . Since then he has been working full-time as a freelance writer. From 2001 to 2004 he was cultural attaché at the Mexican embassy in Paris . Since 2007 he has been director of the UNAM's cultural channel , Canal 22 .
