Josef Beutelmann

Josef Beutelmann (born May 12, 1949 in Nordkirchen ) is a German business economist and chairman of the supervisory board of Barmenia Insurance .

Life

From 1964, Beutelmann completed an apprenticeship as an insurance salesman at Barmenia Insurance in the Münster district office. He then worked there as well as in the Dortmund district office and finally moved to the Wuppertal headquarters. In 1970 he left the company temporarily to study insurance at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences . He graduated in 1973 with a degree in business administration. He then studied business administration at the University of Cologne and received a degree in business administration in 1976.

In 1976, Beutelmann finally rejoined Barmenia Versicherungen and was appointed assistant to the managing director of Barmenia Versicherungs-Vermittlungs-Gesellschaft in 1977. In 1979 he took over the management of the main field sales department II and in 1982 also the management of the main field sales department I. 1985 was followed by the “center” sales department, to which twelve district offices are subordinate.

In July 1989, Beutelmann became a deputy member of the board of directors of Barmenia Krankenversicherung a. G. and Barmenia Allgemeine Versicherungs-AG , two years later he was a full board member of all three companies. In June 1998 he also became managing director of Barmenia Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH . A few weeks later, Beutelmann was elected Chairman of the Board of Management, and in July 1999 also General Manager. He remained Chairman of the Board of Management until 2013, when Andreas Eurich took over from him . Since then, Beutelmann has been chairman of the company's supervisory board.

On December 12, 2006, Beutelmann received an honorary doctorate from the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Wuppertal .

Josef Beutelmann is married and has two daughters.

Beutelmann is chairman of the board of the employers' association of insurance companies in Germany and of the vocational training center of the German insurance industry , chairman of the supervisory board of Sana Kliniken , chairman of the university council of the Bergische Universität Wuppertal , member of the presidential council of Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe e. V. as well as ambassador of the city of Wuppertal.
