Josef Drexl

Josef Drexl (born March 20, 1962 in Fürstenfeldbruck ) is a German legal scholar. Since 2002 he has been Director at the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition in Munich and honorary professor at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . He has also headed the Munich Intellectual Property Law Center as Chairman of the Managing Board since 2009. He has been a member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences since 2009 .

Live and act

Drexl studied law in Munich and Geneva and obtained an LL.M. at Berkeley University . He did his doctorate and habilitation with Wolfgang Fikentscher at the LMU Munich. His habilitation deals with consumer protection law. From 1997 to 2006 he taught as a full professor in Würzburg and Munich.

His main research interests are antitrust law and intellectual property law , i.e. the law of intellectual property (especially copyright ). He also deals with questions of European law , WTO law and general civil and commercial law . Professor Drexl's research is internationally oriented. He presents his research results in numerous publications, through lectures and when advising national governments and international organizations. Professor Drexl was u. a. involved in the creation of the Chinese anti-monopoly law .

In addition, Josef Drexl is a member of numerous associations and committees. He is u. a. Chairman of the competition law association ASCOLA ( Academic Society for Competition Law ) and vice-president of the commercial law association AIDE ( Association Internationale de Droit Economique ). Visiting professorships have led Professor Drexl to the University of Oxford , the Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi Sociali (LUISS) in Rome and to New York University . He teaches not only at the University of Munich, but also at the Munich Intellectual Property Law Center (MIPLC) and at the University Paris II Panthéon-Assas . He is co-editor of the journal IIC and a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Research Institute for Economic Constitution and Competition (FIW) and has been a member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences since 2009 .
