Josef Emanuel Hibsch (born March 26, 1852 in Hummel (Homole u Panny), Bohemia ; † November 4, 1940 in Vienna ) was a geologist .

Life

Josef Emanuel Hibsch studied from 1871 at the kk Polytechnic Institute (from 1872 Vienna University of Technology ), where he passed the teaching examination for natural history and chemistry. From 1874 to 1878 he was assistant to Andreas Kornhuber . From 1878 to 1880 he worked in Pilsen and from 1880 to 1914 professor at the Royal Bohemian Agricultural Academy in Tetschen-Liebwerd . He devoted himself in particular to the geological exploration of the Bohemian Central Uplands . He created the first detailed geological maps of the region. In 1930 he received from the Technical University of Dresden , the honorary doctorate .

Hibsch was a corresponding member of the Imperial Academy of Sciences .

Mineralogical Museum in Homole u Panny, Northern Bohemia

In the former school of his birthplace Homole ( Hummel ) a small museum was set up in his honor.
