Josef Kaut

Josef Kaut (born February 16, 1904 in Salzburg ; † June 8, 1983 ibid.) Was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and editor-in-chief of the Democratic People's Journal in Salzburg. From 1954 to 1956 he was a member of the Salzburg state parliament and from 1956 to 1969 a member of the Salzburg state government .

education and profession

Kaut attended elementary school in Salzburg between 1911 and 1915 and in 1915 switched to the kk Staats- and Bundesrealschule Salzburg , where he passed the Matura in 1922 . He then studied philosophy at the University of Vienna from 1922 to 1929 and worked from 1929 to 1934 as secretary to the editor of the newspaper Arbeiterwillen in Graz. In 1934 he was imprisoned for political reasons, whereupon Kaut went to Prague in 1934 and remained there until the end of the Second World War. After the end of the war, Kaut returned to Salzburg in 1945, where he was editor-in-chief of the Democratic People's Journal from 1945 to 1946.

Politics and functions

Kaut founded the Salzburg regional group of socialist middle school students in 1925/26 . He was sworn in as a member of the Salzburg state parliament on December 11, 1954 and belonged to the state parliament until July 3, 1956. On January 31, 1956, Kaut had already been elected to the Salzburg provincial government, in which he served as provincial councilor until May 14, 1969. Within the party, he was active from 1960 to 1972 as a member of the state party executive of the SPÖ Salzburg, and during his time as a member of the state parliament he was deputy club chairman of the SPÖ state parliament club. In addition, he was the chairman of the Salzburg Children's Friends from 1960 to 1972. He was also a member of the board of directors of the Salzburg Festival from 1950 to 1983 , President of the Salzburg Festival from 1971 to 1983 and President of the Salzburg Cultural Association from 1973 to 1983.
